What’s the value in my emotions??
Life gives us so many opportunities to learn new things, and to understand ourselves.
My wish for you is that you get in touch with the inner strength within that gives you relief in making decisions that matter!
I noticed when I face a big decision - I tend to get overwhelmed and shift into stress mode, or fix-it mode or figure-it-out mode. All these modes are focused on the events happening outside of myself. And this is how I made choices for many years.
Sometimes that’s legit, but sometimes - it doesn't really matter what's happening outside of myself. I may have all the information I need. All the opinions from respected people, and still not feel settled in my heart. I may have a ‘proven recommendation’ but still feel lots of stress moving forward.
One thing I’ve learned about myself is, when I feel this kind of resistance - it’s time to stop, sleep on it, pray, journal, and somehow get to the root of my true feelings before I can move forward with inner integrity.
A big decision I faced last year was deciding to have Chemo and or Radiation after cancer surgery. I found myself really stressed out about this big decision.
I spent precious time all worked up about what the best decision was for me. There are so many details, facts, and opinions about this topic out there. I read many of them! But with all that information overload - came my fear, overwhelm, and a paralysis in making a decision. This all became the focus of my days, and even my dreams - trying to make a decision. I was worried about making the wrong choice & the long term consequences if I made a bad decision!
The information was needed. The overloaded worry didn’t give me any support!
I had to get it together! I call it my Pause…
I had to STOP! On the morning of an appointment with the oncologist, where I needed to choose, I decided to sit by a small pond and get in touch with my heart. I sat and prayed, asking myself WHY to each feeling that bubbled up. It was a struggle to get to my true feelings on this matter.
I knew what the AMA and my Doctors wanted me to do. And I knew what I wanted to do and had to come to terms with my heart. That took some quiet time being alone, processing all the information & feelings. I had to become still and identify what I really felt about all the options on the table.
Once I decided what I really wanted to do, I got up and got ready to go. The Office visit brought me to a point that I finally decided what I was willing to do & not! I made my decision, and felt relieved!
What Became Clear???
It became very clear to me that tuning into my true feelings about what’s next made my decision easier. I felt such relief once I stated my choice. The peace that came afterwards was noticeable. There was a freedom that filled me- about moving forward.
When I’m in touch with as many facts as I can reliably get my hands on, and my true feelings, I can make a good decision! One that I will live with happily. For me it’s getting my head & heart to work together that brings the balance and the personal strength forward to make a hard decision.
What happens if I try something different?
The 2+ months of being all stuck in my head, pursuing all the facts was helpful - but it wasn’t the whole picture. Not until I made myself stop and pull in my true feelings on the subject. Then I was able to make a good decision that felt right in my gut!
When I make my choices from my gut, I usually make good decisions.
I had to learn that skill. Because for years I tried to avoid my emotions - as if they weren't valid. When I discovered and began to study my Human Design - I discovered that my emotions rule me and I was ignoring a key part of who I am!! So now it’s vital that I include my feelings in my final decisions. It’s important for me to understand the facts & my emotions. It’s how I’m wired!!
Each of us are wired differently.
When I realized that I am ruled by my emotions - I felt for the first time I was being true to myself by paying attention to them- not just doing what I was supposed to do. I felt empowered to learn to trust myself in a way that was new. This was serious personal growth for me.
Putting value in my emotions meant I was valid being ME!
Something to ponder…?
What inner part of you brings the most peace when making a decision?
Your Thoughts in your Head? Heart? Gut? Something else? How can you lean into that part of you that feels relief when making decisions that matter?
Give it some thought!
Let's Feel before we stand!
